Centre of La Coruña

Where to Stay

La Coruña has a lot of good hotels to choose from as well as apartments on Booking.com and AirBnB.

But I would strongly recommend that you choose somewhere in the centre, marked in blue above.

The main reason for this is that outside of that area it gets very "hilly" and you could find yourself with quite a steep climb up to wherever you are staying.

Talking of climbing, if you are looking for an apartment, it is worth bearing in mind that La Coruña has the highest average building height in Spain (higher even than Barcelona or Madrid). So you might want to check that it has a lift!

I have also marked in red three areas that you might want to avoid as they can get very noisy at night. See below for more details.

There is an interactive version on Google Maps that is also searchable.

Hotels

If you are thinking about a hotel, I would probably look at these first:

Hotel Riazor

Very popular hotel next to Riazor beach with lovely sea views. Recently renovated and close to everything.

Hotel NH Collection A Coruña Finisterre

Probably the best hotel in La Coruña. Close to the marina and the old town with great views of the bay of La Coruña (Ría da Coruña).

Eurostars Blue Coruña

Next to the shops of Plaza de Lugo and close to lots of bars and restaurants.

Places to Avoid

The only problem you might have is noise from late bars and clubs.

For that reason I would avoid the Eurostars Atlántico as the Pelicano club in front of it has got a terrible reputation.

And, unless you are a heavy sleeper, I would also recommend steering clear of the areas around Rúa Picos, Olmos / Galera and Sol.

Santiago de Compostella

If you are thinking of staying in Santiago, there are even more places to choose from. A couple that I have stayed at are:

Parador de Santiago de Compostela

Very luxurious (and can be expensive). Situated right next to the cathedral, it claims to be the oldest hotel in Spain. Also known as the Hospital Real de Santiago de Compostela.

Hotel Monumento San Francisco

Just round the corner from the parador. Very nice hotel situated in an 18th century convent. Usually a lot cheaper than the parador!
